Our Story

Built on Passion. Rooted in Africa.

Ecolove Africa was founded in 2008 in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, born from a simple but powerful belief: that travel, done right, has the power to conserve our natural world, uplift communities, and transform the human spirit.

Our founders grew up watching the great migrations, guiding visitors through ancient forests, and witnessing firsthand how tourism, when practiced responsibly, becomes a force for extraordinary good.

Today, Ecolove Africa has evolved into one of East Africa's most trusted boutique safari companies — small enough to care deeply, experienced enough to deliver flawlessly. Every safari we design is a reflection of our founders' love for this continent and their belief that every traveler deserves to experience Africa at its most authentic.

We are proud to be 95% locally staffed, eco-certified, and recognized by TripAdvisor for six consecutive years. But what we are most proud of are the thousands of travelers who have returned home forever changed by what they witnessed in the wild.

Dawn game drive (5:30am departure) — the Mara in the early morning light is extraordinary. Track the Mara's famous resident lion super-prides (some numbering 25+ lions), locate cheetah coalitions on the open plains, and search for the elusive leopard in fig tree branches along the Talek River. Game viewing continues through the heat of the day in a second afternoon game drive. The Mara Triangle and Mara North Conservancy offer exclusive areas with far fewer vehicles. July–October: Position for wildebeest river crossings at Mara and Sand Rivers.

Feel how the grass sounds, identify animal tracks, and learn about the medicinal plants the Maasai have used for centuries. Afternoon: Visit a traditional Maasai enkang (homestead) — meet the moran (warrior) class, learn about age-set culture, observe the famous adumu jumping ceremony, and browse authentic handmade beadwork. Entebbe Arrival & Transfer to Bwindi

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport — Uganda's gateway city on the shores of Lake Victoria. Scenic overland transfer to Bwindi (approximately 8 hours through the Ugandan highlands — or opt for a 1-hour charter flight). En route, stop at the equator monument for photos and a crater lake viewpoint. Arrive Bwindi in the late afternoon, briefing from your ranger guide, and early dinner in preparation for tomorrow's trek.

Accommodation: Bwindi forest lodge | Meals: Dinner included

2
Gorilla Trekking — Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

The day you will never forget. Rise early and gather at the ranger station for a briefing. Groups of maximum 8 people set off with armed rangers and expert trackers into the dense montane forest. The trek can range from 1–6 hours depending on gorilla family movement (trackers radio ahead). When you find the family — and you will — the one-hour "visit" begins: sit quietly within 7 metres of a 200kg silverback, watch mothers groom infants, juveniles play-fight, and the family move through the forest together. This is not a zoo or a performance — it is one wild species choosing to tolerate the presence of another. You may weep. Many people do. Afternoon: rest, reflect, and journal at the lodge.

Gorilla Permit: Included | Accommodation: Bwindi forest lodge | Meals: All included

Bwindi Forest Walk & Community Visit

Morning guided forest walk through Bwindi — home to over 120 mammal species and 350+ bird species. Afternoon: visit a Batwa pygmy community — the original indigenous people of Bwindi who lived in this forest for millennia before conservation-driven relocation. Hear their extraordinary oral history and watch traditional fire-making and honey-gathering demonstrations. An emotionally powerful and deeply humbling experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before, during, and after your African safari.

📋 Planning Your Safari

How far in advance should I book? +

We recommend booking at least 6–12 months in advance, especially for peak season (June–October) and gorilla trekking permits, which sell out quickly. However, we can often accommodate last-minute bookings — contact us and we'll see what we can do.

Can you customize any itinerary? +

Absolutely — every single itinerary we offer is a starting point. We customize every safari 100% based on your interests, budget, travel style, group size, and travel dates. No two Ecolove Africa safaris are ever the same.

What's the best time to visit East Africa? +

The best time varies by destination and experience. For the Great Migration in the Serengeti/Masai Mara, July–October is peak season. For gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda, June–September and December–February are ideal. For Tanzania's calving season, January–March is spectacular. Zanzibar is best June–October and December–February.

Do I need travel insurance? +

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical evacuation, trip cancellation, and activity coverage including safari activities. We can recommend reputable insurance providers and help ensure your coverage is adequate for your specific itinerary.

How do I get a Tanzania / Kenya / Uganda / Rwanda visa? +

Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda offer e-Visas that can be applied for online before travel. Kenya requires an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) applied online. We provide detailed visa guidance for all our clients as part of our pre-departure consultation at no additional cost.

🚙 On Safari

What should I pack for a safari? +

Key essentials include neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, beige — avoid white and bright colors), layers for cold mornings, a wide-brimmed hat, quality binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a good camera. We send all clients a comprehensive packing guide 4 weeks before departure.

Is it safe to go on safari? +

Yes — Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Zanzibar are all safe safari destinations for international visitors. Your biggest risks are sunburn and being overwhelmed by the beauty around you. Our guides are trained in safety protocols and the national parks are well-managed for visitor safety.

What camera equipment do I need? +

A DSLR or mirrorless camera with a telephoto lens (200–400mm) will serve you well. However, modern smartphone cameras produce excellent safari images too. We recommend bringing extra memory cards and batteries. Ask your guide for positioning advice — they know where the light falls best.

Are safaris suitable for children? +

Absolutely. Most parks and camps welcome children aged 5 and above for game drives. Our family safaris are specifically designed to engage children of all ages with educational activities, junior ranger programs, and guides experienced in child wildlife education.

What happens if I get sick on safari? +

Our 24/7 emergency support team is always available. East Africa's main safari areas have access to private medical facilities, and medical evacuation by air is available from all our operating regions. We ensure every client has adequate travel insurance before departure.

💰 Pricing & Payments

How much does a typical safari cost? +

Safari costs vary widely based on duration, destination, and accommodation level. Budget safaris start from around $150–200 per person per day, mid-range from $250–400 per day, and luxury from $600+ per day. All prices typically include accommodation, meals, game drives, park fees, and transfers.

What is included in safari prices? +

Our prices include: all accommodation as specified, all meals (full board), game drives as per itinerary, all national park and conservation fees, English-speaking guide, and airport transfers. International flights, visas, travel insurance, tips, and personal expenses are not included unless specified.

What payment methods do you accept? +

We accept bank wire transfers, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard), and PayPal. A 30% deposit is required to secure your booking, with the full balance due 60 days before travel. We are fully transparent about all fees — there are no hidden charges.

What is your cancellation policy? +

Cancellations 90+ days before departure: 90% refund. 60–89 days: 70% refund. 30–59 days: 50% refund. Under 30 days: 20% refund. Gorilla permits are non-refundable. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance to cover unexpected cancellations.

Do you offer any discounts? +

We offer group discounts for parties of 8 or more, repeat traveler discounts, and occasional early-booking offers. We also have a Best Price Guarantee — if you find the same safari for less elsewhere, we will match or beat it.

🏕️ Accommodation

What types of accommodation are available? +

We work with four main accommodation categories: luxury lodges (permanent buildings with full facilities), tented camps (luxury canvas accommodation in the bush), beach resorts (Zanzibar and coastal properties), and boutique city hotels for arrival/departure nights. Each is carefully vetted by our team.

Is accommodation air-conditioned? +

Most luxury lodges are air-conditioned. Tented camps typically use natural ventilation with fans — and honestly, you'll sleep better for it. Nights in the Serengeti can be surprisingly cool, and the sounds of the African night are the best soundtrack for sleep you'll ever experience.

What is the food like on safari? +

Safari food is excellent — and often surprisingly gourmet. Luxury lodges serve multi-course dinners with excellent wine lists. Budget options serve hearty, fresh local and international cuisine. Dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, etc.) are always accommodated with advance notice.

🌿 Sustainability

How is Ecolove Africa eco-friendly? +

Our eco-commitment covers operations, accommodation selection, community hiring, and conservation donations. We are single-use plastic-free in all vehicles and camps, carbon offset all operations, hire 95% locally, and donate a percentage of every booking to vetted conservation NGOs. We are formally eco-certified.

How do you contribute to conservation? +

A percentage of every safari booking is donated to anti-poaching programs, wildlife corridor protection, and community conservation projects. We partner with the African Wildlife Foundation, Tanzania National Parks, and local community conservancies in the Masai Mara ecosystem.

Can I volunteer or give back during my trip? +

Yes — we offer add-on community visits, school visits, and wildlife conservation project tours that allow travelers to engage directly with the communities and initiatives they're supporting through their safari. Ask us about "Give Back" day options when planning your itinerary.
