A Tanzanian-born, eco-passionate team dedicated to sharing the wonders of East Africa with the world.
Ecolove Africa was founded in 2008 in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, born from a simple but powerful belief: that travel, done right, has the power to conserve our natural world, uplift communities, and transform the human spirit.
Our founders grew up watching the great migrations, guiding visitors through ancient forests, and witnessing firsthand how tourism, when practiced responsibly, becomes a force for extraordinary good.
Today, Ecolove Africa has evolved into one of East Africa's most trusted boutique safari companies — small enough to care deeply, experienced enough to deliver flawlessly. Every safari we design is a reflection of our founders' love for this continent and their belief that every traveler deserves to experience Africa at its most authentic.
We are proud to be 95% locally staffed, eco-certified, and recognized by TripAdvisor for six consecutive years. But what we are most proud of are the thousands of travelers who have returned home forever changed by what they witnessed in the wild.
To create transformative, responsible safari experiences that protect Africa's natural heritage, empower local communities, and leave every traveler forever changed.

Drive through the Great Rift Valley escarpment to Lake Manyara National Park — famous for its tree-climbing lions, thousands of flamingos on the alkaline lake, and the stunning forest ecosystem.
Descend into the world's largest intact volcanic caldera for a full day crater-floor game drive. The density of wildlife here is truly staggering — the Big Five all call this 8km crater home year-round.
Morning Maasai village visit before transfer back to Kilimanjaro Airport for departure. Highlights: Big Five · Flamingos · Tree-climbing Lions · Maasai Village · Ancient Baobab Forest.
Arrive, transfer to Arusha, full safari briefing with your lead guide. Welcome dinner with introduction to your team for the week ahead.
Full day in Tarangire — elephant herds, ancient baobabs, diverse birdlife and excellent predator activity. Afternoon sundowner in the park watching elephants cross the dry river bed.
Morning game drive in Tarangire, then drive to the Central Serengeti. Afternoon game drives through the iconic Seronera Valley — home to resident lion prides, cheetah families, and vast herds of plains game.
Rise before dawn for a sunrise game drive across the golden plains. This is the Africa of your imagination — infinite grasslands, big predators, and absolute silence interrupted only by nature. Optional hot air balloon safari available at additional cost.
During migration season (Jul–Oct), drive to the Northern Serengeti to witness dramatic river crossings. Outside migration, explore Seronera's famous lion territories and leopard country along the riverine forests.
Descend into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater at sunrise. Full day on the crater floor among dense wildlife. Picnic lunch inside the crater. Sundowners at the rim as the sun sets over the caldera in spectacular orange and purple hues.
Morning Maasai village visit followed by transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure. The Serengeti will be with you forever.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Two nights in Arusha with time to acclimatize, explore the town, and receive your full expedition briefing with your lead safari specialist.
Fly or drive into the Serengeti and spend two full days in the world's greatest wildlife arena. Your guide will position you for the best game viewing based on real-time animal movement data.
The iconic crater floor experience — Big Five, flamingos, and the most densely packed wildlife spectacle on the planet. Sundowners on the rim at golden hour.
Fly from Kilimanjaro to Nairobi. Afternoon exploration — the iconic Giraffe Centre, Karen Blixen Museum, or a sunset game drive in Nairobi National Park with the city skyline as backdrop.
Three full days in the legendary Masai Mara — lion prides, cheetah families, dramatic river crossings (in season), and the most spectacular game viewing in Africa. Dawn and dusk private game drives.
Morning transfer to Nairobi airport for your flight to Zanzibar. Afternoon arrival — check into your beachfront resort and hear the Indian Ocean for the first time after days of bush and dust.
Explore the labyrinthine UNESCO streets of Stone Town, join a sensory spice farm tour through clove and cinnamon plantations, then board a traditional wooden dhow for a sunset cruise on the Indian Ocean.
A final morning on Zanzibar's perfect white-sand beaches before your transfer to Zanzibar Airport. Depart with a lifetime of memories and a heart full of Africa.
The Masai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu — Kenya invented the safari experience and continues to deliver it at the highest level.
Arrive at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Transfer to Wilson Airport for your scenic 45-minute charter flight over the Rift Valley to the Masai Mara airstrip (alternatively, a 5-hour road transfer with a game drive en route through Nairobi National Park). Check into your camp overlooking the Mara River. Afternoon game drive — your first taste of the Mara's extraordinary wildlife density.
Dawn game drive (5:30am departure) — the Mara in the early morning light is extraordinary. Track the Mara's famous resident lion super-prides (some numbering 25+ lions), locate cheetah coalitions on the open plains, and search for the elusive leopard in fig tree branches along the Talek River. Game viewing continues through the heat of the day in a second afternoon game drive. The Mara Triangle and Mara North Conservancy offer exclusive areas with far fewer vehicles. July–October: Position for wildebeest river crossings at Mara and Sand Rivers.
Start with a guided morning bush walk — on foot, with your armed ranger, experiencing the Mara at eye level for the first time. Feel how the grass sounds, identify animal tracks, and learn about the medicinal plants the Maasai have used for centuries. Afternoon: Visit a traditional Maasai enkang (homestead) — meet the moran (warrior) class, learn about age-set culture, observe the famous adumu jumping ceremony, and browse authentic handmade beadwork. Evening sundowner on a Mara escarpment viewpoint.
Final dawn game drive (optional hot air balloon safari — advance booking required for a truly unforgettable Mara sunrise experience). Return to camp for breakfast, then fly or drive back to Nairobi for international departure or city night. Optional Nairobi stopover: Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Karen Blixen Museum.
Arrive Nairobi and settle into your airport hotel. Afternoon visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage — an extraordinary experience watching baby elephants being raised by rangers. Optional Nairobi National Park game drive (Big Five within 7km of the CBD) or Giraffe Centre visit.
Fly north to Samburu — a dramatic, dry landscape unlike any other Kenyan reserve. Home to species found nowhere else in Kenya: the reticulated giraffe (the world's tallest), Grevy's zebra (endangered), Beisa oryx, long-necked gerenuk, and Somali ostrich. These are the "Northern Five" — species your Samburu guide knows by name and territory. The Ewaso Nyiro River attracts elephants at dawn and dusk in extraordinary concentrations. Two full days of game drives reveal a Kenya that most safari travelers never see.
Fly or drive to Laikipia — Kenya's most progressive conservation landscape, where former cattle ranches have become world-class wildlife conservancies. Home to one of Kenya's largest black rhino populations, endangered wild dog packs, elephant, lion, and spectacular birdlife. Activities include game drives, guided bush walks on foot (elephant and rhino in the open — extraordinary), night game drives (rare nocturnal species), and visits to Laikipia community conservation projects.
Fly to the Masai Mara for two days of game drives in Kenya's most iconic reserve. Lion prides, cheetah, leopard, elephant, buffalo — the Big Five and more on the Mara's sweeping golden plains. July–October: prime position for wildebeest river crossings. Sundowner game drives on the Mara escarpment. Second evening: private bush dinner on the plains (luxury upgrade option).
One final dawn game drive before flying back to Nairobi for international connections. Kenya's wildlife will be with you in a different way now — not as spectacle, but as memory and responsibility.
Gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, tree-climbing lions, Murchison Falls — Uganda packs more emotional wildlife encounters per day than anywhere on the continent.
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport — Uganda's gateway city on the shores of Lake Victoria. Scenic overland transfer to Bwindi (approximately 8 hours through the Ugandan highlands — or opt for a 1-hour charter flight). En route, stop at the equator monument for photos and a crater lake viewpoint. Arrive Bwindi in the late afternoon, briefing from your ranger guide, and early dinner in preparation for tomorrow's trek.
The day you will never forget. Rise early and gather at the ranger station for a briefing. Groups of maximum 8 people set off with armed rangers and expert trackers into the dense montane forest. The trek can range from 1–6 hours depending on gorilla family movement (trackers radio ahead). When you find the family — and you will — the one-hour "visit" begins: sit quietly within 7 metres of a 200kg silverback, watch mothers groom infants, juveniles play-fight, and the family move through the forest together. This is not a zoo or a performance — it is one wild species choosing to tolerate the presence of another. You may weep. Many people do. Afternoon: rest, reflect, and journal at the lodge.
Morning guided forest walk through Bwindi — home to over 120 mammal species and 350+ bird species. Spot forest elephants, l'Hoest's monkeys, African green broadbill, and dozens of rare butterfly species. Afternoon: visit a Batwa pygmy community — the original indigenous people of Bwindi who lived in this forest for millennia before conservation-driven relocation. Hear their extraordinary oral history and watch traditional fire-making and honey-gathering demonstrations. An emotionally powerful and deeply humbling experience.
Early morning transfer or flight back to Entebbe. Depending on departure time, optional stop at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre or a Lake Victoria boat trip. Depart from Entebbe International Airport, forever carrying Bwindi in your heart.
Arrive and transfer to Kampala for an afternoon city tour — the historic Kasubi Tombs (UNESCO), Gaddafi National Mosque (panoramic city views from the minaret), and the vibrant Owino Market. Evening dinner in Kampala's growing restaurant scene — one of East Africa's most underrated food cities.
Drive north to Uganda's largest national park (6 hours or 1-hour charter flight). Afternoon game drive on the northern bank — lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, leopard. Day 3: Sunrise game drive (lions hunting at dawn are regularly seen), then the most dramatic boat trip in Africa — a 3-hour launch cruise up the White Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, where the world's most powerful waterfall forces the entire Nile through a 7-metre gorge. Hippos, crocodiles, Nile monitor lizards, and extraordinary bird life line the river banks. Afternoon: hike to the top of the falls for a view straight down into the spray.
Drive south to Queen Elizabeth National Park — home to the world-famous tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha Sector (one of only two known lion populations in the world that habitually climb trees). Afternoon game drive through the Kasenyi Plains — one of the highest predator densities in Uganda — and the Kazinga Channel boat cruise where hippos, buffalo, and water birds crowd the shores at extraordinary concentrations.
Drive to Bwindi for 2 nights. Day 5: Chimp trekking in Kibale Forest National Park en route (world's highest density of primates — 13 species including chimpanzee, red colobus, l'Hoest's monkey). Day 6: Gorilla trekking — your permit is pre-booked in your preferred Bwindi sector. Spend one unforgettable hour with a habituated gorilla family in the ancient forest. This is why people fly to Uganda.
Charter flight or overland back to Entebbe. Optional afternoon at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre or lunch on Lake Victoria. Depart from Entebbe International Airport — Uganda changed you.
Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, golden monkey tracking, a transformed and inspiring capital city, and misty thousand hills — Rwanda is unlike anywhere else.
Arrive at Kigali International Airport — Rwanda's spotlessly clean, safe, and vibrant capital. Afternoon city tour: the Kigali Genocide Memorial (a deeply moving and important site — Rwanda's extraordinary story of healing and resilience), the Inema Arts Centre (Rwanda's leading contemporary art gallery), and the Kimironko Market. Evening dinner in Kigali's thriving restaurant scene.
Early drive northwest (2.5 hours) through Rwanda's extraordinary terraced hillsides to Volcanoes National Park — the setting for Dian Fossey's famous gorilla research (portrayed in "Gorillas in the Mist"). Afternoon golden monkey trekking — these brilliantly coloured Cercopithecus monkeys inhabit the bamboo forests at the volcano base and were habituated alongside the gorillas. A fantastic wildlife encounter in its own right. Evening briefing for tomorrow's gorilla trek.
The day that changes you. Briefing at 7am at the park headquarters, then set off into the Virunga volcanic forest with your ranger team. Rwanda's gorilla families are incredibly well-habituated — some groups are found within 30 minutes, others require a 3-hour forest climb. When you reach the family, one hour in their presence: watch the silverback assert his authority with a chest-beat display, observe mothers nursing tiny infants, watch juveniles tumble and wrestle through the undergrowth. The most intimate wildlife encounter on earth, and one of the most important conservation success stories of the 20th century. Afternoon: visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund research station and grave site at Karisoke.
Morning drive back to Kigali. Depending on flight time, visit the Presidential Palace Museum or the vibrant Nyamirambo neighbourhood for coffee and crafts. Depart from Kigali International Airport — Rwanda is the most remarkable country in Africa. You'll be back.
Powder-white beaches, turquoise Indian Ocean waters, UNESCO Stone Town, spice farms, and dolphin tours — Zanzibar is where every East Africa safari should end.
Fly into Zanzibar Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. Transfer to Stone Town — the UNESCO-listed historic capital, a labyrinthine maze of carved wooden doors, mosques, Hindu temples, and Arabic mansions that tell 1,000 years of Swahili trading history. Afternoon guided walking tour with a local historian through the narrow lanes, visiting the Old Fort, Anglican Cathedral (built on the former slave market site), and House of Wonders. Evening at the legendary Forodhani Night Market on the waterfront — grilled seafood, Zanzibar pizza, and sugarcane juice under the stars.
Morning spice farm tour — one of the most sensory experiences in East Africa. A local guide leads you through clove, cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom, lemongrass, and black pepper plants, teaching you to identify each by smell and taste, and explaining how the spice trade made Zanzibar one of the wealthiest places on earth in the 19th century. Ends with a traditional Swahili spice lunch in the farm gardens. Afternoon: Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park — home to Zanzibar's endemic red colobus monkeys (found nowhere else on earth), mangrove boardwalk, and forest bird life.
Transfer to Nungwi on Zanzibar's northern tip — considered the island's finest beach destination, where the Indian Ocean is calm and warm year-round (no tide issues that affect some east coast beaches). Nungwi village is a traditional dhow-building community — watch master craftsmen constructing wooden sailing vessels using centuries-old techniques. Afternoon: explore the beach, snorkel the fringing reef directly from shore, or try a stand-up paddleboard at sunset. Evening: sundowner dhow cruise from Nungwi's beach.
Full day boat excursion to Mnemba Atoll — a privately protected marine conservation area 3km off the northeast coast. Arguably the finest snorkelling in the Indian Ocean: coral gardens teeming with hawksbill sea turtles, reef sharks, octopus, parrotfish, lionfish, and endless schools of tropical fish in extraordinary visibility. Morning dolphin boat tour at Kizimkazi — spinner and bottlenose dolphins are regularly encountered in Zanzibar's southern waters. Return to Nungwi for a final sunset on the beach.
A final slow morning on the beach — coffee, warm sand, and Indian Ocean — before transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your departure. If connecting to Dar es Salaam or Nairobi for international flights, transfers are fully arranged. Zanzibar never truly leaves you — the scent of cloves and the turquoise water will come back to you for years.
For those who want it all — Tanzania, Kenya, and Zanzibar in one extraordinary 12-day journey across East Africa's greatest destinations.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Two nights in Arusha — Tanzania's safari capital and a vibrant, welcoming city at the foot of Mount Meru. Time to acclimatize, explore Arusha town, visit the excellent Arusha Cultural Heritage Centre, and receive your full expedition briefing from your lead Ecolove Africa safari specialist. Equipment check, packing review, weather briefing.
Fly or drive into the Serengeti — 14,763 square kilometres of open savannah, the most iconic wildlife destination on earth. Two full days of dawn-to-dusk game drives. Your guide uses real-time wildlife movement data to position you optimally — whether tracking the migration front (Jul–Oct), attending the calving grounds (Dec–Feb), or finding resident predators in Seronera year-round. The Serengeti never fails. Optional: sunrise hot air balloon safari (advance booking essential).
Drive south from the Serengeti into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Descend at sunrise into the ancient caldera — the world's largest intact volcanic crater, 19km wide and 600m deep. The crater floor holds the greatest density of large mammals in Africa: all Big Five year-round, golden jackals, spotted hyena clans, vast flamingo flocks. Crater-floor picnic lunch. Sundowners on the rim as the caldera turns golden below you.
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight to Nairobi. Check into your Nairobi hotel and spend the afternoon at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage — one of the world's most successful elephant conservation programs, where orphaned baby elephants are raised for eventual wild release. Optional: Giraffe Centre, Karen Blixen Museum, or Nairobi National Park sunset game drive.
Fly to the Masai Mara for three full days in Kenya's most legendary wildlife arena. Day 7: Arrival and afternoon game drive — first impressions of the Mara are overwhelming. Day 8: Full day game drives across the Mara Triangle and Mara North Conservancy (exclusive areas with far fewer vehicles). Track the famous resident lion super-prides, cheetah coalitions, and leopard along the Talek River. Day 9: Optional dawn hot air balloon safari, then final game drive and Maasai village cultural visit before evening sundowners on the Mara escarpment.
Morning flight from Mara to Nairobi, then connecting flight to Zanzibar. Arrive mid-afternoon — check into your beachfront resort and feel the Indian Ocean breeze for the first time. The contrast with the safari is extraordinary: from red dust and lions to white sand and turquoise water within hours. Sundowner walk along Nungwi beach, fresh seafood dinner watching the dhows return to harbour.
Full Zanzibar cultural day — morning Stone Town guided walking tour through 1,000 years of Swahili trading history (carved doors, slave market cathedral, Arab fort, Palace Museum). Afternoon spice farm tour with hands-on cooking demonstration and Swahili lunch in the farm garden. Evening: sunset dhow cruise on the Indian Ocean — traditional wooden sailing vessel, cold drinks, the sun dropping into the sea, Zanzibar's silhouette behind you.
A final luxurious morning on Zanzibar's perfect beach — coffee at dawn, warm Indian Ocean at 8am, late breakfast. Transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your departure flight. You leave as three countries richer: Tanzania's infinite plains, Kenya's golden Mara, and Zanzibar's spiced island in your soul. This is East Africa, and it will call you back.

We recommend booking at least 6–12 months in advance, especially for peak season (June–October) and gorilla trekking permits, which sell out quickly. However, we can often accommodate last-minute bookings — contact us and we'll see what we can do.
Absolutely — every single itinerary we offer is a starting point. We customize every safari 100% based on your interests, budget, travel style, group size, and travel dates. No two Ecolove Africa safaris are ever the same.
The best time varies by destination and experience. For the Great Migration in the Serengeti/Masai Mara, July–October is peak season. For gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda, June–September and December–February are ideal. For Tanzania's calving season, January–March is spectacular. Zanzibar is best June–October and December–February.
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical evacuation, trip cancellation, and activity coverage including safari activities. We can recommend reputable insurance providers and help ensure your coverage is adequate for your specific itinerary.
Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda offer e-Visas that can be applied for online before travel. Kenya requires an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) applied online. We provide detailed visa guidance for all our clients as part of our pre-departure consultation at no additional cost.
Key essentials include neutral-colored clothing (khaki, olive, beige — avoid white and bright colors), layers for cold mornings, a wide-brimmed hat, quality binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a good camera. We send all clients a comprehensive packing guide 4 weeks before departure.
Yes — Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Zanzibar are all safe safari destinations for international visitors. Your biggest risks are sunburn and being overwhelmed by the beauty around you. Our guides are trained in safety protocols and the national parks are well-managed for visitor safety.
A DSLR or mirrorless camera with a telephoto lens (200–400mm) will serve you well. However, modern smartphone cameras produce excellent safari images too. We recommend bringing extra memory cards and batteries. Ask your guide for positioning advice — they know where the light falls best.
Absolutely. Most parks and camps welcome children aged 5 and above for game drives. Our family safaris are specifically designed to engage children of all ages with educational activities, junior ranger programs, and guides experienced in child wildlife education.
Our 24/7 emergency support team is always available. East Africa's main safari areas have access to private medical facilities, and medical evacuation by air is available from all our operating regions. We ensure every client has adequate travel insurance before departure.
Safari costs vary widely based on duration, destination, and accommodation level. Budget safaris start from around $150–200 per person per day, mid-range from $250–400 per day, and luxury from $600+ per day. All prices typically include accommodation, meals, game drives, park fees, and transfers.
Our prices include: all accommodation as specified, all meals (full board), game drives as per itinerary, all national park and conservation fees, English-speaking guide, and airport transfers. International flights, visas, travel insurance, tips, and personal expenses are not included unless specified.
We accept bank wire transfers, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard), and PayPal. A 30% deposit is required to secure your booking, with the full balance due 60 days before travel. We are fully transparent about all fees — there are no hidden charges.
Cancellations 90+ days before departure: 90% refund. 60–89 days: 70% refund. 30–59 days: 50% refund. Under 30 days: 20% refund. Gorilla permits are non-refundable. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance to cover unexpected cancellations.
We offer group discounts for parties of 8 or more, repeat traveler discounts, and occasional early-booking offers. We also have a Best Price Guarantee — if you find the same safari for less elsewhere, we will match or beat it.
We work with four main accommodation categories: luxury lodges (permanent buildings with full facilities), tented camps (luxury canvas accommodation in the bush), beach resorts (Zanzibar and coastal properties), and boutique city hotels for arrival/departure nights. Each is carefully vetted by our team.
Most luxury lodges are air-conditioned. Tented camps typically use natural ventilation with fans — and honestly, you'll sleep better for it. Nights in the Serengeti can be surprisingly cool, and the sounds of the African night are the best soundtrack for sleep you'll ever experience.
Safari food is excellent — and often surprisingly gourmet. Luxury lodges serve multi-course dinners with excellent wine lists. Budget options serve hearty, fresh local and international cuisine. Dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, etc.) are always accommodated with advance notice.
Our eco-commitment covers operations, accommodation selection, community hiring, and conservation donations. We are single-use plastic-free in all vehicles and camps, carbon offset all operations, hire 95% locally, and donate a percentage of every booking to vetted conservation NGOs. We are formally eco-certified.
A percentage of every safari booking is donated to anti-poaching programs, wildlife corridor protection, and community conservation projects. We partner with the African Wildlife Foundation, Tanzania National Parks, and local community conservancies in the Masai Mara ecosystem.
Yes — we offer add-on community visits, school visits, and wildlife conservation project tours that allow travelers to engage directly with the communities and initiatives they're supporting through their safari. Ask us about "Give Back" day options when planning your itinerary.
